Last week I ventured into London WITHOUT kids for the first time since being pregnant. Giddy with the excitement of only having to look after myself I made my way to Kentish Town with its cool bars and pretty streets to meet just a handful of the ladies who make up the Baukjen team and to see the SS18 collection. The team are so welcoming and enthusiastic about the label it was a joy to be able to chat to them and find out more about the world of Baukjen.
Each year, Baukjen tease us by releasing there collections in small edits. This keeps their designs fresh and lets us shop the new throughout the year. There is also the added buzz of a new designer, Natalie who will be bringing her own sense of style when the AW18 collection drops (I can’t wait…she was gorgeous to talk to, inspiring as a mum of twins who is juggling being a top designer as well as busy mum and just a genuinely warm and lovely person).
Baukjen SS18 sees a palette of strong pastels with cornflower blue, khaki green and marshmallow pink interspersed with the classic neutrals on which to build a capsule wardrobe. There are also the unmistakable Baukjen stripes (which, let’s be honest are a wardrobe must have) and scatterings of stars which are always a hit and the odd logo which are wearable and far from the “in your face” designs some brands deliver.
The collection not only had me mentally planning my Summer wardrobe but also made me realise the quality with which the clothes are made. Soft, silky fabrics and flattering cuts mean that you know the pieces will withstand motherhood and the odd (!?) night out.
