I have written about The Bird Box before…it is a scented candle brand set up by a Mum of two who wanted to create home fragrances which had no nasty hidden chemicals in them (you would be surprised how many brands do add ingredients which cause allergies to flare up) and whose scents provided benefits to the home environment. Essential oils all have different benefits for the mind, body and soul and it is this philosophy which The Bird Box follows.
Therefore, when I was asked if I would like to attend a candle making workshop I immediately said yes. The Founder and Owner, Sophie is an inspiring and genuinely lovely lady with a generous and kind soul. She has the ability to make you feel so welcome and you leave (not only with some gorgeous scented candles) feeling uplifted and so, so positive.
I arrived and she showed us through to her workshop. Hundreds of bottles of essential oils mingle their subtle fragrances around the room. You immediately feel relaxed and at ease. The process then begins. Firstly we were told the fundamentals in making a candle and then we were let loose to create our own, one of a kind scent for our candles!
Sophie was fabulous in helping us with which scents would work with each other. I chose two different fragrances for my candles. The first one I wanted to be a bit Spring/Summer garden like…admittedly a bit ambiguous but Sophie helped me and I blended Rose Garden, Rose, Lavender, Pettigrain and Cedar Wood together before adding them to my wax base. I didn’t know but Sophie puts 5 teaspoons of essential oils in every candle! No wonder they smell so divine!
For my second scent I wanted something relaxed…like a gentle cuddle. For this one Neroli, Patchuli and Mandarin were combined and my candles were made, set within her beautiful glassware although candles can be set into just about anything so the possibilities are endless!
Should you wish to take a trip to rural Berkshire and try your hand in one of these workshops, contact Sophie at The Bird Box for more details.
