Although jeans are a definite go-to when it comes to a standard everyday “Mum” look, I am partial to a maxi dress. They are quick to put on in the mornings, easy and comfortable to wear but (and here’s the clever bit), they look as though you’ve made more of an effort than you really have! Not that I am lazy mind you, but with three kids to get ready in the mornings, anything which can cut corners to save time is a winner in my book, and the maxi dress is a winner, winner, chicken dinner.
A maxi dress is a fab option for any day, any situation. It can be styled up or down and can be worn come rain for shine. I have taken the Hush Ursula Maxi Dress (in a rather gorgeous zebra print) and styled it to give some examples as to how I’ll be wearing it through the Autumn/Winter season.
When I just want to get out of the door in the mornings, trainers, my tote (which carries my world in it…well, mainly Hettie’s world) and a sweatshirt to keep the Autumnal chill at bay is a no-brainer. As the weather changes by the hour at the moment, the sweatshirt can always be discarded and the maxi dress can be let loose to do its thing.
To add a bit of colour but to also keep it a bit girly, a coloured, textured knit is a Winter option which I’ve teamed with my buckled ballet flats (I think they are a couple of years old from Zara!). Knits over dresses of any length are a great way to style dresses for the upcoming cooler seasons. Team with ankle boots for a more cooler weather-friendly option.
For those few moments I get to escape in the evening a maxi dress can look polished with heels and a smart jacket thrown over it. I have belted the dress too which also adds a new element to any dress.
In my last look I thought I would mix up the prints and textures with a silk star print scarf a my trusted leather jacket (it has been a great buy – well worth thinking about adding one to your wardrobe it you haven’t got one already!). For my cool mum days or out for drinks moments!
So there you have it, one maxi dress styled in a number of ways to suit what you are doing at any given time. The Hush one I have used for this post you can get here. It makes a change from leopard print and isn’t so animal print obvious!
I was gifted the dress by Hush however all images, opinions and writing are my own.
