I am a lucky lady, because as part of the world I inhabit as a “blogger” (urgh, I hate that word) I get to go to Press days to take a look at what we have to look forward to in the seasons ahead. In all honesty I hardly go to any as I always feel my Mum role should come first. However I wanted to go to the Marks & Spencer Press Day to take a peek at the Spring/Summer ’19 treats which lie in store for us as I feel M&S are having a good moment in terms of design and styling.
On entering the stunning One Marylebone venue we were greeted by row upon row of perfectly curated outfits making us dream of warmer days and potential carefree holidays. So, here is a look at what will be on offer over the coming months to get us Summer ready.
The denim edit was the first collection to greet us as we walked into the SS19 preview. Denim is a hit every year (duh!) but the standout pieces for me were the ruffled denim shirt (sleeve detail is apparently a “thing” this coming season, plus it will look great with simple black cigarette trousers or dungarees), the utility jumpsuit (I love it and it’s on my wishlist) and the shirt dress – imagine with sandals and a straw basket strolling in the sunshine!
And then check out the off white boots with a very subtle Western feel – they will go with EVERYTHING.
The above outfit was my favourite at the SS19 Press Day. I adore an oversized blazer and teamed with the straight jeans and satin shirt, clashing the checks with the leopard print shoes it just ticked all my boxes.
Then from layering to a simple old school tracksuit – it couldn’t be more perfect for travelling in – especially teamed with those pink slides.
A loose dress always catches my eye and if you follow me on Instagram you will see my Marks & Spencer AW18 drop waist dress has been a constant feature. I feel the above will be my Summer equivalent.
Other dresses which stood out for me were the zebra print (an ideal transitional piece – wear now with boots and a black rollneck underneath)…and check out the structured bucket bag! The lovely flat dress will be at home on a Summer’s day here as well as on a relaxing holiday and the tan heeled sandals are a “were with everything” item for Summertime.
Talking of holidays there were multiple pieces int eh new collection which I could see being packed and ready to see warmer climates. The above swimsuit with its graphic print stood out along with the mustard dress (this would also be ideal with the tan sandals).
For Summer days int he city there were dressier options in soft mustards contrasted with black along with soft blushes teamed with buttery leather and metallics.
These contrasting looks both were winners for me…a faux leather pleated skirt with simple blouse and then another fab Summer dress (something else on my wishlist!).
Although I do like a pop of colour, I am constantly drawn to neutral shades and both these outfits drew me to them. team with white dress with a denim jacket for cooler days and a round raffia tote and you’re ready to Summer.
Real holiday style in this edit – have you spotted the satin zebra print trousers int eh above photo? With a white tee and tan sandals I am thinking…whilst another white dress has caught my eye in the below photo.
The tropical print swimwear is elevated with the metal ring details and I think the higher waisted bikini bottoms of the green bikini is spot on (plus the green will look great on both pale and tanned skin tones).
And now onto the shoes. The sandals with the metal circle look chic and will be well worn over Summer whilst the fabric slides are perfect for poolside.
I think if there is one thing we can all agree on it is that Marks & Spencer are hard to beat when it comes to lingerie. Along with soft neutrals, the blues and emerald greens looked luxurious whilst the pastel coloured, cool cotton loungewear could be seen worn on a veranda watching the sunset with G&T in hand.
So there you have it. My breakdown of the exciting SS19 Marks & Spencer range. I feel there is plenty to look forward to as temperatures rise and suitcases start to be packed ready for beachside breaks.
