When I first came across Doodle Dents it was at a Christmas Fair (remember, when we could walk about freely and interact with others?), but with three kids and a not too happy husband in tow I wasn’t able to have a good nose at the stall. Luckily, I bumped into the Founder at a networking event and got talking to him (him being Chris Golding) and discovered how Doodle Dents had come into being.
Doodle Dents started from a desperate attempt by a dad to try and balance entertaining kids whilst working from home (something many of us can relate to right now!). After trying various distraction activities with his daughter Violet, aged 6, Chris was sat (in slight despair!) when his daughter picked up a piece of kitchen roll and started filling in the little dents with various colours to create a pattern. She was so pleased with the result, they shared Violet’s discovery with her siblings (aged 3 and 8) and guess what? They loved it too. The kids thought it would be great to have pictures to do the same with…and Doodle Dents was born.
Now, I have to admit, when I first received the pack kindly sent by Doodle Dents, I did wonder if it could really be true…would my kids, a studious 8 year old and a loud, fidgety 6 year old both really get into the concept and sit quietly…and patiently…filling in the little dents until a picture emerges? Well, to my surprise yes, yes they did sit there and create pictures they were proud of.
Plus, it didn’t stop at one picture, they kept asking if they could do more (imagine that, an activity which doesn’t;t fizzle out after 5 minutes?). I found them Doodle Denting (could that be a word?) in their bedrooms, in a den they had built outside, on the trampoline and just about everywhere they could think to go when they wanted a bit of down time.
Doodle Dents has been a bit of a life saver during this isolation period and they are getting through the pack at a pace. They are already asking when more pictures will be produced…ummm, Chris?? I really to hope some more go into production when some sort of normality returns as they are great to pop in my bag when we can finally go out again, but for now, we will keep Doodle Denting around the house…and I can see ordering more before our time at home finishes.
You can find Doodle Dents here…plus if you are being really organised, the Christmas set would make a fab stocking filler (don’t look at me like that, it’s just a thought!).
I was sent the Doodle Dents but all images, opinions and writing are my own.
